Space is something most people think of as rigid but when reminded of our position in the universe and our rotating earth they soon realise that space is never still. Space combined with time (psychological and physical) creates moments of extreme fluidity within our lives, with the possibility of repeating moments never possible due to these two aspects. The introduction of cameras allows us to capture ourselves in any given space and freeze it in time, allowing us to recollect later our unique moment in the World of space and time. By creating a sense of past, present and future I am challenging the viewers perception of where they fit into ‘space’, as they think they know it, how they perceive their existence and the ideal of leaving no trace of ones presence.
Through the use of surveillance technology I am looking at how we situate ourselves into space/areas and the importance we put on those places. Surveillance is usually something reserved for places or spaces that are considered vulnerable or important. The idea of us not knowing when we’re in those spaces or being surveyed without our permission can be disturbing.
